You learn best about writing when you need to critique others' works. This workshop has a two-fold aim. You will firstly work on a piece of writing for children and then present it for critiquing among the group of participants. Secondly you will develop your own critiquing skills by considering, in turn, fellow participants' work.
Target Audience: This course would suit people who enjoy writing for children of any age, and wish to develop their craft further by learning to critique their own and the work of others.
You will need to develop and submit a piece of writing in advance of the course.
Learning Objectives: By the end of this course students will have: * developed their capacity to consider, analyse and critique work by other students. * received analysis and critiques of their own presented work. * considered and discussed aspects of the genre and craft.
Course Outline: Approximately two weeks before the course you will be sent a structured exercise of no more than 1500 words to assist you in developing a piece of writing for children. Your piece of writing will need to be submited a week before the first course session to allow it to be distributed to the group for reading in advance.
The three day course will be spent critiquing and discussing each participant's work. Discussion will cover all aspects of craft and genre.
Course Format: This is a three-day course held on consecutive Saturdays. In each session there will be opportunity for lengthy consideration and discussion of each student's work. Participants will receive supporting materials throughout the course to focus discussion of craft.
Morning and afternoon tea will be provided. Participants will need to supply their own lunch, which can be purchased at nearby food outlets, or you are welcome to bring your own.
Class Limit: This course is limited to a maximum of 15 participants. Places are limited, so please enrol early.
