SPSS provides a powerful statistical analysis and data management system in a graphical environment. This workshop introduces participants to the basic functions of SPSS and teaches the skills necessary to perform a variety of statistical functions.
Who Should Attend: This course is for anyone engaged in qualitative research. It is assumed that participants have good PC skills, a basic knowledge of Excel and a working knowledge of statistical concepts. No previous SPSS experience is required.
Course Objectives: * Navigate around the SPSS software Work with data in SPSS * Perform a variety of statistical analysis functions
Course Outline: * Navigation around the SPSS software * Create a new data set and enter data into SPSS * Open and save SPSS files; import data from sources such as MS Excel * Variable properties including value labels and missing value codes * Data transformations, eg compute and recode variables * Calculate descriptive statistics and other statistical procedures * Produce a range of suitable tables, charts and graphs * Manipulate SPSS Output files (including exporting these to other software) * SPSS Help functions, eg Results Coach and Statistics Coach * Run basic SPSS syntax
Course Format: This hands-on course is taught in our Computer Training Suite. There is a maximum of 12 participants and each participant has their own PC. Mac users can be accommodated with their own laptop.
Teacher: Lyn Lavery is a researcher, software trainer and director of Academic Consultants. Lyn also teaches: NVivo 1: Working with data and basic analysis and NVivo 2: Extending analysis functions.
