New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) is the language of the New Zealand Deaf community and was recognised as New Zealand's third official language in 2006. This course builds on the skills and knowledge gained in NZSL 1 or in previous study.
Target Audience: New Zealand Sign Language 2 is suitable for those who have completed New Zealand Sign Language 1 or its equivalent and feel confident with their knowledge of basic New Zealand Sign Language.
Learning Objectives: By the end of this course students will have learned: * To acquire further understanding of basic grammar * More about Deaf Culture and Deaf community. * To continue to develop receptive and expressive skills for everyday communication situations
Course Format: This course comprises 24 hours of classroom interactive group learning made up of 2-hour sessions over 12 weeks. To reinforce your learning homework is encouraged. There is no formal assessment.
Required Materials: New Zealand Sign Language Student Videotext (or DVD) Units 7-12, and New Zealand Sign Language Student Workbook Units 7-12. This text must be purchased separately and is not included in the course fee. It can be purchased online at the New Zealand Sign Language Teacher Association www.nzslta.org.nz click on the 'Resources' tab.
Class Limit: This course is limited to a maximum of 16 participants.
