This workshop is suitable for anyone who wants a basic grounding - or refresher - in the rules of grammar, punctuation, and word use.
Course Objectives:
* Cover all the basics of modern English grammar Learn that grammar serves the writer
* Learn how to use grammar to increase clarity and effectiveness in your writing
Course Outline:
* Identifying the eight parts of speech and the role each one plays in our sentences
* Using effective sentence construction: phrases, clauses, and conjunctions
* Avoiding common errors and special problems
* Ensuring that subjects, verbs, and pronouns agree
* Applying parallel structure to lists and sentences
* Identifying and correcting misplaced and dangling modifiers
* Using tenses correctly and consistently
* Ensuring that punctuation is necessary and correct
Course Format:
This is not a 'back to school' course - practical written exercises and discussion form a major part of the course. Bring your own documents as well as questions and ideas.
