Today's business writing can take many forms and the 'rules' have been changing. You need to achieve your purpose for writing and meet the needs of your audience. Choosing an appropriate structure, style and tone is essential.
This two-day course, with the sessions one week apart, will help you to make good choices and find the appropriate words to use. You will look at what constitutes effective business writing, and explore the differences between formal and informal business communications. You'll also have the opportunity to receive feedback on a sample of your own business writing.
At the completion of this course, you will have the practical know-how to produce clear, concise, grammatically correct documents every time. And you'll have the confidence to excel in your business writing.
This course will cover:
Day 1 • planning to write well • clarifying purpose and audience • identifying essential content • choosing the appropriate format, style, tone and structure • planning a short work related document • discovering plain language • writing concise readable sentences.
Day 2 • using document layout to help with readability • understanding how typical business readers approach long documents • improving the clarity and readability of written examples • drafting your short work-related document • receiving feedback on your writing • tips for self-editing and proofreading.
