Learn how to write effective emails and other written documents.

Do you find it hard to express yourself in writing? Learn how to produce effective emails and other documents by mastering a six-step process that takes the hard work out of “getting it down in writing”. Through plenty of practical exercises, you will learn how to clarify your key message and build your ideas clearly and logically. In the second session, we will review important points of grammar, punctuation and style that will help you deliver polished, precise writing that creates a good impression of you and your workplace.

Course outline
(1) Planning
• Identifying the reader’s point of view
• Identifying the purpose -- what you want to achieve
• Identifying the key message

(2) Creating
• Identifying what information to include
• Organising it logically
• Using appropriate linking words

(3) Language
• Using active language, specific words and plain English
• Eliminating clutter
• Using correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar


Learning outcomes
During this course you will learn to:

recognise your reader's point of view
organise your contents logically into paragraphs
master commas and apostrophes
recognise potential spelling and word choice challenges.

Rosemary Hepozden

Rosemary Hepozden has been teaching English as a Second Language since 1991. She taught adults in language schools, universities and businesses overseas -- in England, Italy, and Turkey -- before returning to Auckland where she was Director of Studies at a private language school for five years. For the last ten years, Rosemary has provided various writing and ESOL courses through the University of Auckland's Centre for Continuing Education. She loves good language and clear communication, and has a continuing passion for helping students of English understand,
enjoy and excel in the Kiwi workplace.
