The aim of this two-day workshop is to introduce the Appreciative Inquiry approach to leading a change initiative.
This workshop addresses the leadership behaviours of Adaptability, Communication and Personal Leadership on our Leadership Competencies Framework.
This change leadership workshop introduces you to the fundamental principles of Appreciative Inquiry (AI) – a positive and engaging approach to purposeful organisational change. The workshop utilises the essential steps of AI – Define, Discover, Dream, Design and Deliver – to build a sustainable solution to a change dilemma identified by the participant group.
Combining concepts of systems thinking with AI, the techniques taught will be useful if you are involved in introducing positive, sustainable change in your organisation.

This workshop is for those building skills in change leadership and those engaging with others to creative positive change in the workplace.
By the end of this workshop, you will:
■understand the essential principles and practices of Appreciative Inquiry (AI) ■have experience applying the five fundamental stages of the AI process ■be familiar with several case examples for implementing AI in an organisational context ■understand how an AI solution can be used in organisational change and development

Michelle Shields is the National Manager of Learning and Development at AgResearch, a New Zealand Crown Research Institute. As part of her role, she is responsible for leadership and team development and management of individual training programmes to meet science and technology professional skill requirements.
Michelle has over 20 years experience in human resource development. Prior to joining AgResearch she was a frontline leadership coach and manager of new product training at Telecom New Zealand and a Senior Lecturer in Business Studies with the Christchurch College of Education. Before taking up permanent residency in New Zealand in 2002, Michelle worked with several North American companies including IBM, Nortel Networks and Bell Northern Research.
She holds an MS degree in Organisational Development and Behaviour from Eastern Michigan University and a PhD in Psychology from North Carolina State University. Her research focuses on the use of Systems Thinking tools and methodologies to enhance understanding of organisational performance
